Neglected Passion & Rediscovery: A Leadership Reflection

Well, I hit that stage in the entrepreneurial journey. You know the one that starts off with this grand plan of creating valuable content to fuel personal and business brand… and then the proverbial wheels start falling off the bus when prospecting and client work starts coming in? 🤦🏽♀️

As a quick reminder, in January, I took a leap of faith and launched Liminist, a strategic advisor and executive coaching business. Full of navigational and crossing threshold metaphors, I embarked on this exhilarating adventure, ready to make a difference in the lives of advertising agencies and chief marketing officers. Alas, a twist awaited me on my desired path. 😅

You see, ever since I worked for Jeff Hilimire at Engauge and he made it a requirement to create one post each week, writing became my solace, my creative outlet, and a way to connect with others. So naturally, with my new business, each week I prioritized crafting content people would enjoy. 📝✨

Yet, as Liminist gained momentum, the demands of working with clients, fine-tuning my services, and hustling to sell my expertise left me with little time to nurture what I know is one of the keys to my future success—writing. 😔

However, life has a way of nudging us in the right direction. This nudge, ironically, came in the form of a fellow executive coach. To give you a bit of context, one of the “stops” on my entrepreneurial itinerary includes getting ICF certified (I am already CEC certified). As part of this effort, I have created a community of fellow coaches, willing to practice ICF core competencies with me. Because we spend so much time coaching one another, we run out of topics and fall back on old faithful: prioritization. It was during one of these sessions, this coach helped me realize that I don’t have a problem with prioritizing… it’s just that I forgot the significance of my writing, not just for others but also for my own joy and the success of my business. 💌

And so, armed with a newfound perspective, I made a solemn vow to myself: I would carve out time amidst the hustle and bustle of advising, coaching, and selling to indulge in my writing once more. I realized that it was not a mere luxury but a vital component that would supercharge my business journey. 💡✍️

So, my calendar is blocked off and I have committed to keeping time open for writing. The joy of reconnecting with my craft has been rekindled and the importance of not neglecting what brings me fulfillment has become a powerful lesson etched in my entrepreneurial journey. 🌈

So, dear friends, let this story serve as a gentle reminder: in the whirlwind of entrepreneurial success, let us not forget the passions that fuel our souls. Seize the opportunity and make time for what sets your heart on fire. Trust me, it will bring you joy and enhance the success of your business. 🙌💼
